Metro All Stars
The Metro All Stars were an American rock and soul band formed in the early 1980s in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area of Minnesota. Active primarily during the mid-1980s, the group gained regional popularity throughout the Upper Midwest, performing at venues across Minnesota and North Dakota while blending elements of pop rock, new wave, and soul. The band also gained wider exposure as finalists on the television talent competition Star Search. In 1984, they released their debut album, A Night at the Prom, a live recording issued by Waterhouse Records that captured performances from local shows.
The Metro All Stars earned significant recognition within the Minnesota music scene, winning the Rock/Pop Band or Artist award at the Minnesota Music Awards in both 1984 and 1985. The group was also nominated for Band of the Year in 1984, while guitarist Danny Mangold received an individual nomination that same year.
In 1986, the band adopted the name The Metros and signed with MTM Records, whose releases were distributed by Capitol Records. They released a self-titled studio album, The Metros, produced by Tommy West and Warren Peterson. The album featured a more polished sound and included songs such as "After the Passion's Gone."
